As a reporter for Night & Day magazine, I produced all of the editorial content for each print and digital issue as well as the corresponding website. I pitched and wrote articles and headlines and conducted thorough research, interviews and original reporting on a wide array of topics including food, entertainment, health and wellness and more. In addition, I was responsible for taking photographs of food, places, and people for certain articles. Every issue would focus on a specific theme such as holiday and seasons, dining, acitivities and events. For example, a summer theme could center around outdoor activities for both land and sea. As a reporter and editorial assistant for The Ocean Star newspaper, I covered the town of Mantoloking and wrote articles related to town council meetings and town happenings. I researched articles, conducted interviews and also wrote feature profiles once a month in addition to my weekly town articles. I assisted the Managing Editor in various projects and was responsible for formatting Letters to the Edior, Obituaries, Recapping the Record, Churches and Street Beat for each weekly print publication. I was also responsible for managing weekly production days by printing and distributing pages among staff and proofing and copy editing articles. Below are some clips from The Ocean Star.

During my time as a contributing writer and editor for Alum-Knights I was able to interview Lisa Takeuchi Cullen, J/MS 1992, an author, journalist, and TV writer who at the time of the interview was getting ready for her novel, Pastors’ Wives, to be released. The inspiration for her novel came from an article she wrote when she worked for Time about the wives of Protestant pastors. I was also able to talk to her about the TV pilot she had sold to CBS titled “The Ordained.” The article was published in the Alum-Knights print publication and is also on the Alum-Knights website. As a writing intern for the Rutgers School of Social Work I conducted an interview with Cynthia Fearon, a domestic violence survivor who  is now the director of communications at MetLife and, for 20 years, has been delivering family violence training programs throughout the country, and participating in public awareness events on violence against women and children. In October the Rutgers School of  Social Work hosted the event “Domestic Violence: How Workplaces Get Hurt and How They Can Help,” and Fearon gave an inspirational and impacting keynote address. I was able to attend the event and combine her keynote address and the interview I had previously done to create this feature article. http://socialwork.rutgers.edu/newsandresearch/sswnews/13-10-22/Business_Leaders_Social_Workers_and_Survivors_Examine_Intimate_Partner_Violence_in_the_Workplace.aspx

SSW_News SSW_News_2During my junior year I was enrolled in a Journalism course titled Hyperlocal Newsroom and through this course I not only learned how to write for an online news source and adhere to SEO principles, but I was also able to be a contributing editor and writer for New Jersey Newsroom. Every other week every student in the class would write two to three stories and then edit two to three stories to be published on the site. Below are a few of my clips from New Jersey Newsroom.
